No. 1. Shoe. Inside are two bones of a human foot from ancient tombs at Akhmin (Panopolis), Upper Egypt. Probably work of the fourth to the sixth century A.D.

No. 2. Shoe. Length, 9 inches. From ancient tombs at Akhrnin (Panopolis), Upper Egypt. Probably of the sixth century. Made of maroon-coloured leather, the upper part cut in one piece and stitched to a stout sole. A gilt pattern of rectangles, forming a row, runs round the top, interrupted on the instep by a circle enclosing a star.

No. 3. Shoe. Length, 10 inches. From ancient tombs at Akhmin (Panopolis), Upper Egypt. Probably of the fourth to sixth century A. D.  Made of maroon-coloured leather, pierced with a floral scroll pattern underlaid with gilt leather, to which it is sewn. The upper part is cut in one piece and stitched to the sole. Inside are two bones of a human foot.

No. 4. Sandal. Formed of superimposed layers of leather, padded with papyrus, the upper surface gilt and furnished with a thong tci pass between the toes. From ancient tombs at Akhmin (Panopolis), Upper Egypt. Probably work of the second century.
